Get the Electric Chair (plus generator) ready! Mindanao is getting angry!
I’m seeing Erap in a new light. He does try to be closer to Mindanao. I mean he has spent some majority of his campaigns of cleaning up Mindanao if not for his er, half-thought means of declaring all-out war to insurgents. Now Erap is championing Mindanao again! Taken from Business Mirror, the following statements might shock you a bit. Sit down and read! Mindanaoans READ!!!!!
4-6 and soon to be 8… hours of BROWNOUT in Cagayan de Oro!
I really have doubts to whether the power companies are REALLY true with their reports of low power supply. We’ve had a LOT of seasons where temperatures reached up to 35 degrees celsius almost to 40 degrees and yet power loss was minimal.
What happened to our coal and oil power plants? I really don’t want to be pessimistic and think that all these brownouts are just to give PGMA emergency powers OR the sudden brownouts during ballot box counting. I don’t even want to think that the brownouts are there to cripple the electronic voting system which ensures lesser cheating from politicians. [I'll try to predict, with increasing brownouts crooked politicians will call for scrapping the electronic voting system]
An article published by inquirer may provide clue to the dastardly acts of TRAPOS.
NGCP president Walter W. Brown said the supply shortfall on Saturday resulted in outages of about one hour in Davao City, two hours in Iligan City, four to five hours in Cagayan de Oro and General Santos cities, and seven hours in Zamboanga City.
Parts of Davao Oriental had no power for 24 hours during the weekend.
Reyes said the generating capacity of the Agus and Pulangui hydropower plants had been reduced by 80 percent and 90 percent, respectively, due to very little water inflow into the reservoir.
The 35-MW Iligan diesel power plant remained unavailable, he added.
Oh really? At a time like this and a diesel power plant conks out? Oh c’mon!
Some “one” is now proposing 8 hour rotating brownouts as written by Mr. Cole of Sunstar. How many establishments will have to shut down for a WHOLE 8 hours just because of the brownout? How many establishments will use gas powered generators? They aren’t as efficient as big coal plants and spew x2 the amount of carbon dioxide. All these will increase the expenses and in turn raise the prices of basic commodities.
This could be probably a twisted plot of TRAPOS. We’re the ones suffering directly and indirectly.
Rant to power companies | fix your bulbs!
Dear <insert power company>,
You may think you’re “saving” us electricity with all these rotating blackouts but you are just WORSENING the condition! Here are a several instances of the havoc unscheduled blackouts and brownouts and even the ironic “unannounced” scheduled brownouts are causing:
- Damage to electric devices in residential and commercial areas. From a small stereo to giant refrigerators, sudden brownouts decrease their useful life!
- Spoiling of perishables in shops and stores. Either they thaw out or use generators still adds up to the expenses
- Loss of customers in establishments such as restaurants, schools, internet cafes etc
- Decreased comfort of paying customers
- Loss of communication – internet, mobile, telephone, television and radio
Not only that, even hospitals are affected especially in the ICU where I saw a patient nearly die when the hospital switched to generator power for a couple of minutes! In a barangay health center a community nurse texted me as a mother watched helpless because they couldn’t turn on a nebulizer for her child who was having a respiratory distress! Those unscheduled and unannounced blackouts and brownouts may have killed someone or several someones!
There may be lowered water levels in dams but almost half of the electricity comes from the oil and coal power plants! Stop complaining of and do your job and justify the exorbitant bills that we are paying you for!
Clean up your act!
Sincerely,
Iman Ho RN
